My favorite thing that I learned about this year was probably the space unit in science. I love the thought of space and I love learning about it because I just think that it is so interesting. It is just amazing to think about all that we have accomplished during our time on Earth. Many years ago, people never would have thought that we could have got to space. I also loved learning about everything in history this year because we watched these cool videos and at the end of the year, it was cool to look back at all that we had learned and all that had happened in US history. I just think that it is SO cool that this much could come from people just being creative and using their minds to accomplish something unthinkable.
Middle School-High School
Middle school has been such an experience. Going into middle school, you get a lot more freedom than in elementary. I have loved learning about space and some other history of the U.S. I will miss being young because, in high school, you are pretty much considered a young adult. In high school, you have a lot of responsibilities and the classes are a lot harder. I’m not sure if I am ready for the hard classes, but I’ll study as much as I can to get good grades.
Adultness
To call yourself an adult, take on responsibility, be independent, and act like it. Adulthood should be considered when you turn 21. It is an average age to be when you turn into an adult. When people turn 18 they have a lot of responsibilities. They could be considered adults to some people, but, they don’t have all the rights as an adult yet. People actually only become adults if they act like it. If you think that you have become the right age to be an adult, you need to act like it. If you don’t act like an adult and become mature, people won’t consider you to be one. Being mature means making smart decisions and not acting silly and dumb. When you become an adult, you need to be independent. You can no longer fully rely on your parents and peers. You need to act on your own and make a stand for yourself.
Sadly, you can’t always be a kid as most people wish. Adults want to go back to being a kid so that they have less work and responsibility, but what they don’t realize is that when they were a kid, all they wanted was to be an adult. People have to go to school and most of the time go to college. College is where most people go when they are 18 and it helps develop responsibilities. It shows people what it is like to live on their own and hopefully, when they are done with college, they would know how to manage their responsibilities well. To become an adult, most people would think that you would have to move out and live on your own. Maturity is a big issue in this too. To move out, you have to be mature enough to hold your own against the world. By acting like an adult, taking on responsibility, and being independent, you can fully call yourself an adult. But, it really doesn’t matter when you declare yourself as an adult, as long as you can manage your life and act like an adult.
Scientists On Controversial Issues
I think that it is up to the scientist what they say about the issue. If the issue is something that they know for sure is wrong then I think that they should say something, but if it is something simple, then they don’t have to say anything. The scientists should be free to speak their thoughts because they are the ones that are answering a lot of thought-provoking questions that none of us would have any idea what the answer would be without them. If I was a scientist and I have to decide what to do on a controversial issue, I would state a theory that could make people question if I was right. Since it is not like it was with Isaac Newton where anything he would say, the people would say that he was right, anything that I say would be questioned and people would doubt. But, we should all be free to state our opinions and not be scared because of all the people judging us.
Progressive Era
I would want to help bring attention to the people living in tenements. Like Jacob Riis, I would want to help show the struggles of a lot of people during that time. This could help reform how many people lived and helped stop the living conditions in these tenements. The living conditions were horrible and it transported many diseases. People had to live with many other people and had no space. Some couldn’t afford pillows or blankets, so they had to sleep in the trash. They were probably super cold and scared because of the spreading of diseases. I would help by probably being a photojournalist and showing attention to not only the poor living conditions but to all of the trash being thrown onto the floors and streets. With this help, maybe living conditions could have improved and trash could have been reduced.
The Pit and the Pendulum
The Pit and the Pendulum was one of Poe’s longer short stories. It had a different ending than many of the narrator’s other short stories. Many of Poe’s short stories end with the narrator murdering or dying by some cause related to that stoy, but in this short story, the narrator didn’t die or murder anyone. This ending was better because it was different than the narrator’s other stories. This story helps add some variety to the narrator’s stories so that the reader might not know what is going to happen next. Poe mostly writes in first person, so the stories are creepy and realistic. His stories can’t always be the same this, so that is a benefit about this story. There are many reasons that could be proven as of why this story is a exemplary short story.
This short story adds some variety to the sequencing of the narrator’s stories. In this story, the narrator is in and out of consciousness. This makes the story so much more realistic and scary because we are only able to know what the narrator is seeing. So, whatever happens to the narrator, the reader would only know what the narrator is feeling, seeing, or doing. With this, anything could be possible in the story, so this story is proving that. If all of Poe’s short stories ended the same way, the reader would always expect it. In this short story, it has a different ending as to add some variety to Poe’s stories.
This story is all about torture, so that is why the story had a fascinating ending. The narrator would have given into the turture, instead of being saved from it to live on. This story could have ended in many different ways, but Poe chose this ending. The narrator had so many things going on in his mind while being tortured and he will live on, being forever scared from this horror. This ending could have been chosen as to show that the narrator would have been left alive, to keep being tortured throughout life. Life is built to have you endure through so much pain, so this story could have ended this way to show that everyone has to endure through pain. That is why the ending to the story was a adequate ending to finish the story.
Takata Airbags
Takata’s airbags have been used in around 2.9 million vehicles in the U.S. For this reason, I would have thought if the airbags had a malfunction, they would have taken action and spoken up about it. But, they decided to keep it quiet. I think that Takata Airbags were dealt a great deal with all of the fines that they had put against them, but they should’ve had a more severe punishment for not warning people about the safety risks. I think that criminal charges could have been pushed onto them because of them knowing and not doing anything about it. There was thankfully a recall on the vehicles that had this airbag implanted. This recall is still going on today. Thankfully, the Takata airbags today aren’t an immediate safety risk and drivers do not need to take any current action. Takata airbags have been part of an ongoing recall in the U.S. since 2014. Officials said that they can hurl shrapnel if they explode after deteriorating over time due to heat and humidity. This is definitely a safety hazard and I’m glad this was discovered and dealt with.
Confidence
One time, when I was younger, I was at church and I was chosen to say the story of how I became a Christian. I was so nervous, even though I had a whole week to prepare. My friend helped me and helped me gain my confidence. I was still scared to stand up in front of everyone because I thought that I would jumble my words up and be embarrassed. My friend help me organize what I would say and help me practice. With his help, my confidence rose and I was able to say my story and it felt so good to get that done once I had done it. If it weren’t for him, I don’t know if I would have been able to say the story.
The Poluo
The Poluo is a large people group in China. There are about 33,000 people in the people group. The main religion of these people is Pholo. These people happen to be in the 10/40 window. Their main religion is ethnic religion and there are 0.10% of the people in this group practice Christianity. Only 0.04% of the people practice evangelical practices. The vast majority of Poluo still adhere to the superstitions of animism, polytheism, and ancestor worship. To these people, their family is very important to them and they cherish their customs and traditions. They live in very remote locations like mountains. They use bamboo pipes to transport water to their homes. Despite a large number of people in their group, still very little is known about them. These people are disconnected from the rest of society so it is very unlikely that they have any version of the Gospel. The Bible has though, been translated into Pholo, so if the people wanted to, they could read it. Pholo is one of the main languages spoken by Chinese people, so most of the Christian resources would have been translated into Pholo. We could pray for this group by praying that God will deliver someone to these people and that they would be willing to listen to what the missionary has to say. These people mainly rely on their ethnic religions and they worship what they believe are gods. People would have to bring them Bibles and other Christian resources. Their biggest problem with getting Christianity is their geographical features. They live in mountains and in other remote locations. I chose this people group because I wanted to see how much information was known about these people. They were in the 10/40 window and I was interested in how much Christianity they had in their group.
Is Shakespeare too hard?
To me, reading Shakespeare is hard. I would rather read another book than one that has been written in Shakespeare’s writing. I would be fine with learning a script to act it out, but I really don’t like reading Shakespeare. I am fine with the comprehension, but it is sometimes hard because Shakespeare writes in a weird way. I know that Shakespeare is a historical model for all of his writings getting quoted, but his writing is hard to understand. Whenever we are reading out loud, it is hard to pronounce a lot of the words. So, I think that we should be learning about it, but not reading it.
